Webinar | The Legal Entity Identifier (LEI): The Key to Unlocking Financial Inclusion in Developing Economies
MFW4A & the GLEIF are hosting a webinar on The Legal Entity Identifier (LEI): The Key to Unlocking Financial Inclusion in Developing Economies.

Date: 13 October 2021, 1pm GMT / 3pm CET /3pm EAT

All around the world, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) lack robust business credentials. As a result, millions face significant barriers to growth: their access to finance, particularly to trade finance, is either severely limited or denied altogether, and their capacity to establish contractual domestic and international trading partnerships is constrained. Even gaining access to payment services is a challenge.
KYC and AML requirements have emerged as a new and growing challenge for SMEs.
Stringent KYC/AML regulations are having two unintended consequences on the trade finance sector, which are:
- Increasing compliance costs for applications and transactions.
- Reducing the number of international banks participating in trade finance across the region.

The Legal Entity Identifier (LEI), as a globally recognized and standardized form of business ID, can solve this problem as it enhances transparency in the marketplace and builds greater trust between market participants.

MFW4A has identified the need to strengthen AML/CFT/CPF compliance systems and practices in African jurisdictions to combat financial crime and enhance the integrity of financial sectors.
